Dr. Eric Hellman, formerly a scientist at Bell Laboratories, announced today the formation a new corporation, Openly Informatics, Inc. Dr. Hellman will serve as the company's President.
The mission of Openly Informatics, Inc., is to help the scientific, medical and technical research and publishing communities establish a 21st century infrastructure for scholarly publishing. Openly's primary activities are the development of software, systems and services to enable cost-effective internet publishing of interoperable scholarly journals and symposium proceedings.
Dr. Hellman spent the 10 previous years as a research scientist at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey. In 1995, he was the founder and constructor of the MRS Internet Journal of Nitride Semiconductor Research (MIJ-NSR), and served as its "Journalmaster". MIJ-NSR makes use of aggressive automation and the internet to drastically cut operating costs compared to conventional journals.
