OpenURL Links from Citation Databases
OpenURL compatible databases such as EBSCO, Proquest, Gale,
Infotrac, FirstSearch, and many others, offer links from citations to
your 1Cate Link-server. These are similar to the links that are offered to
your OPAC to check for local holdings, with these additional benefits:
- Since the 1Cate Link-server knows about ALL of your full-text resources,
users are directed to a list of all locations where they can get
access, including your print materials and titles in aggregator databases.
- If the full text provider supports OpenURLs, the user will be
taken directly to the article rather than being dumped at an opening
screen or bibliographic record.
- Extended links can be constructed on the fly from the information
in the OpenURL. For example a link to do an additional search by article author can be
offered.
- If you do not subscribe to the title being searched, you can offer
links to more information about the journal, and even offer document
delivery options directly at the point of need.
